Napa Valley Wine Tasting |
For a Taste Adventure try a Weekend Napa Valley Wine Tasting Tour Everyone needs to get away from it all very once in awhile. If you live in anywhere in the Western United States and Canada area, you are just a couple of hours from a taste sight and sounds vacation get away if only for the weekend. I'm talking of course about the Napa Valley Wineries area in Northern California. The Napa and Sonoma Valleys are almost synonymous with fine wine making. The Napa Valley is recognized as one of the few spots on the planet that can grow the grapes necessary to create fine wines. This no doubt is due to the temperate weather with just enough moisture, heat and humidity during the day and night to create maximum grape quality. Although not as popular as areas in France, the northern California Napa Valley wine offerings have continuously won numerous awards in blind taste testing. Napa wines are made throughout the area in local small and large winery operations. These wineries all offer tours and welcome guests to visit, taste and enjoy the area. Wine tasting is a big business in this area with tours of all types being offered. There are wine tasting tours for specific types of wine, tasting tours of just wineries in a specific area, and general wine tasting where you can just follow the map and make a day of it.
Of of the often less mentioned things about this area is the pace. The speed of life in this area of the country harkens back to a simpler time. They even have a Napa Valley train that can take you through the valley via restored 1940's vintage rail cars. Imagine a lunch wine tour trip for the afternoon. Talk about a way to unwind. Although the wineries, wine and the tours are a focus, you simply can't beat the experience of a train through beautiful countryside. One of the most popular attractions however has to be the wine train. This little train takes you through the area with stops on a lunch and wine tasting tour. Although the Napa Valley wineries are a focus the wine train actually offers a number of very interesting events onboard including holiday special trips and even a murder mystery dinner. The Napa Valley Wine Train tour features a restored 1915-1917 Pullman Dining and Lounge car, the open-air railcar, or the sky dome 1947 Pullman Vista Dome dining car. The seats are plush velvet; the sights are magnificent and relaxing isn't the word to describe the experience. One of the more unusual and at the same time more intense versions of Napa Valley wine tours is the blind wine tasting experience. This is not one wherein sighted folks are blindfolded but wherein visually impaired persons can still have the wine tasting and winery education: legally blind visitors are taken to the vineyard where they physically pick the grapes and get an opportunity to taste them, as well. Then, the group is offered a "palette testing" session with jelly beans. They sniff and taste and try to identify flavors. The tour includes, of course, a wine-tasting hour; the group is ushered to the wine cave where the people taste a selected wine. So if you're looking for a romantic get away where unwinding that knot in your body is the goal, plan a trip to the wine country of Napa and Sonoma counties in Northern California with a loved one.
